Thrown tangling weapon
A bola is a throwing weapon consisting of weights attached to interconnected cords.
When hurled at an animal or person, the cords wrap around the target's legs or body, entangling and immobilizing them.
Bolas were traditionally used by South American gauchos for hunting and catching livestock, and remain associated with that region.
The weapon appears occasionally in video games and action films as an exotic restraint device.
