Toe-post sandal
A thong is a narrow strip of leather or other material, used for fastening or as a lash.
The word extends to minimal footwear held on by a strap between the toes—called flip-flops in American English but thongs in Australian.
A thong is also underwear or a swimsuit bottom with a narrow back strip that leaves the buttocks exposed: She wore a thong bikini to the beach.
