blockhouse
Small military fortification
A blockhouse is a small fortified building, typically made of heavy timber or concrete, with loopholes for defensive fire.
Historically, blockhouses protected frontier settlements and military positions.
The term now applies to reinforced structures near rocket launch sites that shelter personnel and equipment during liftoff: The engineers monitored the countdown from the blockhouse.
