birth defects
Inborn physical problems
Birth defects are physical or developmental abnormalities present from birth—malformations of organs, limbs, or body systems that occur during fetal development.
Some result from genetic factors, others from environmental exposures during pregnancy: The drug was pulled after it caused birth defects.
Also called congenital defects or congenital abnormalities.
