Agent Orange

Jungle-stripping chemical weapon

Agent Orange is a chemical defoliant used by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War to destroy forest cover and crops.

Named for the orange stripe on its storage containers, it contained dioxin, which caused lasting health problems—cancers, birth defects, and other illnesses—in exposed soldiers and Vietnamese civilians.

The term now evokes the war's toxic legacy: My father was exposed to Agent Orange.
