spina bifida
Incomplete neural tube
Spina bifida is a birth defect in which the spine fails to close completely during fetal development, leaving the spinal cord and nerves exposed or protruding.
Severity ranges from mild cases causing few symptoms to severe forms resulting in paralysis, bladder problems, or hydrocephalus.
The condition can often be detected before birth through prenatal screening.
