abdominal wall
Core muscle layer
The abdominal wall is the layered structure of muscle, fat, and connective tissue that forms the front and sides of the abdomen, enclosing and protecting the organs within.
It runs from the ribcage to the pelvis.
Surgeons cut through it to access internal organs; hernias occur when tissue pushes through weak spots in it.
