cleft palate
Roof gap, congenital
A cleft palate is a birth defect in which the roof of the mouth fails to close completely during fetal development, leaving a gap between the mouth and nasal cavity.
The condition can cause difficulties with feeding, speech, and hearing.
Surgical repair is typically performed in infancy: The baby was born with a cleft palate and underwent corrective surgery at nine months.
