necropsy
Postmortem animal examination
A necropsy is an examination of a dead body to determine the cause of death—the same procedure as an autopsy, but the term necropsy is typically reserved for animals rather than humans.
Veterinarians perform necropsies on pets, livestock, and wildlife: The necropsy revealed the dog had ingested rat poison.
