alloys
Brass and bronze
Alloys are metals made by combining two or more metallic elements, typically to achieve properties superior to the pure metals alone.
Bronze alloys copper with tin; brass alloys copper with zinc; steel alloys iron with carbon.
The verb means to mix metals this way, or figuratively to dilute or debase something pure: His joy was alloyed with apprehension.
