URIs

Resource location strings

URIs, or Uniform Resource Identifiers, are strings that identify resources on the internet or other systems.

A URI can be a URL (which locates a resource, like a web address) or a URN (which names a resource without specifying its location).

The term is technical but common in web development and standards documents: The API accepts URIs for external images.
