Twin Towers
Manhattan's fallen pair
The Twin Towers were the two main buildings of the World Trade Center in New York City, destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Standing 110 stories each, they were briefly the world's tallest buildings when completed in the early 1970s.
The name now carries heavy symbolic weight in American memory: She lost her father in the Twin Towers. (Lowercase twin towers describes any matched pair of tall buildings.)
