Ground Zero
Lower Manhattan memorial
Ground Zero refers specifically to the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in Lower Manhattan, where the World Trade Center towers stood.
The term became the dominant name for the location during rescue and recovery operations and persists in public memory: We visited Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial. (Lowercase ground zero is any explosion's epicenter or a starting point.)
