Tsardom of Russia
Pre-Petrine Russian state
The Tsardom of Russia was the Russian state from 1547 to 1721, beginning when Ivan IV ("the Terrible") adopted the title tsar and ending when Peter the Great proclaimed the Russian Empire.
The term distinguishes this period from earlier Russian principalities and the later imperial era.
