Treaty of Nystad
Baltic war's end
The Treaty of Nystad was a 1721 peace agreement ending the Great Northern War between Russia and Sweden.
The treaty marked Russia's emergence as a major European power, as Sweden ceded substantial Baltic territories including Estonia, Livonia, and parts of Finland.
Peter the Great's victory secured Russia's access to the Baltic Sea: The Treaty of Nystad transformed Russia into a maritime empire.
