Merrimack

Confederate naval vessel

Merrimack is a river in New England flowing through New Hampshire and Massachusetts to the Atlantic.

The name is best known from the Civil War ironclad CSS Virginia, often called the Merrimack after the frigate from which it was converted.

The 1862 battle between the Virginia and USS Monitor marked the first clash of armored warships.
