Tasmanian tiger

Lost striped predator

The Tasmanian tiger, also called the thylacine, was a carnivorous marsupial native to Australia and Tasmania, resembling a large dog with distinctive dark stripes across its back.

The last known individual died in captivity in 1936, making it a symbol of human-caused extinction.

Despite occasional unconfirmed sightings, the species is considered extinct.
