Tar Heels
North Carolina athletes
Tar Heels refers to people from North Carolina or, more specifically, to athletic teams of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The nickname's origin is disputed but likely relates to the state's historical tar production from pine forests.
The Tar Heels won the national championship.
