three-pointer

Shot beyond arc

A three-pointer is a basketball shot taken from beyond the three-point arc, worth three points instead of the usual two: She hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The term extends to any dramatic long-range shot: He launched a three-pointer from half court.

In casual use, three-pointer can describe any successful attempt from a distance.
