Dresden
Saxony's baroque capital
Dresden is a city in eastern Germany, capital of Saxony, known historically for baroque architecture and cultural significance.
The name evokes the firebombing of February 1945, when Allied raids created a devastating firestorm that destroyed much of the city center and killed tens of thousands.
The Dresden bombing remains controversial among historians.
