Sacagawea

Lewis-Clark expedition guide

Sacagawea was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804–1806) as an interpreter and guide.

Captured as a child and later married to a French-Canadian trapper, she traveled with her infant son across the American West to the Pacific Ocean.

She appears on the U.S. dollar coin introduced in 2000.
