Monticello
Hilltop Virginia estate
Monticello is the Virginia plantation and mansion built by Thomas Jefferson, who designed it in neoclassical style.
The name, Italian for "little mountain," reflects Jefferson's admiration for Italian architecture.
The estate near Charlottesville is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and museum: We toured Monticello on our trip through Virginia.
