Roman letters
Western writing system
Roman letters are the alphabetic characters used in English and most Western European languages—the familiar A through Z.
The term distinguishes this writing system from others like Cyrillic, Arabic, or Chinese characters.
Also called the Latin alphabet: Japanese uses Roman letters for some loan words.
A Roman letter may also mean one in an upright typeface, as opposed to italics.
