Horace

Old Roman appellation

Horace is a male given name, from the Roman poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus, whose work shaped Western lyric poetry.

The name was common in the 18th and 19th centuries but now sounds dated: Uncle Horace always told the same stories.

Horace Greeley, the American newspaper editor, famously advised "Go West, young man."
