Cyrillic alphabet

Russian writing system

The Cyrillic alphabet is the writing system used for Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian, and many other Slavic and Central Asian languages.

It derives from Greek letters, adapted in the 9th century to represent Slavic sounds.

Different languages use slightly different versions, adding or dropping letters as needed: She learned to read Cyrillic before visiting Moscow.
