Okefenokee

Trembling earth wetland

Okefenokee is a vast swamp and wildlife refuge straddling the Georgia-Florida border, covering nearly 700 square miles of blackwater wetlands, cypress forests, and peat bogs.

The name comes from a Muscogee word meaning "trembling earth," describing the unstable peat surfaces that quiver underfoot.

We spent three days canoeing through the Okefenokee.
