Paiute
Great Basin people
Paiute refers to several related Indigenous peoples of the Great Basin region of the western United States, including parts of Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and California.
The term encompasses distinct groups—Northern Paiute, Southern Paiute, and Owens Valley Paiute—who share linguistic roots but maintained separate territories and customs.
Paiute also describes the Numic languages these peoples speak.
The Paiute reservation spans parts of two states.
