High Sierra refers to the elevated central portion of California's Sierra Nevada mountain range, characterized by rugged peaks, alpine lakes, and granite formations.
The term evokes wilderness grandeur and backcountry adventure: We spent a week backpacking in the High Sierra.
Apple used the name for a macOS release (2017), following its convention of naming operating systems after California landmarks.
