temperate rainforest

Wet coastal forest

A temperate rainforest is a dense, wet forest found in mild climates rather than tropical ones.

These forests receive heavy rainfall year-round and are characterized by towering conifers or broadleaf trees, thick undergrowth, and abundant mosses and ferns.

The Pacific Northwest of North America and parts of New Zealand and Chile contain notable examples.
