SAR
Finding lost hikers
SAR stands for search and rescue, the coordinated effort to locate and assist people in distress—lost hikers, downed aircraft, maritime emergencies: The Coast Guard launched a SAR mission.
SAR also abbreviates Specific Absorption Rate, a measure of how much radiofrequency energy the body absorbs from devices like cell phones.
In biology, SAR refers to structure-activity relationship, which studies how a molecule's chemical structure affects its biological effects. (Lowercase sar is a dialectal variant of sir.)
