Londonderry
Northern Irish port
Londonderry is a city in Northern Ireland, also called Derry.
The dual naming reflects political division—unionists favoring Londonderry (acknowledging the London companies that rebuilt the city in the 17th century), nationalists preferring the original Irish name Derry.
The compromise "Derry/Londonderry" or humorous "Stroke City" acknowledges this tension.
We drove through Londonderry on our way to the coast.
