Latinos

Western Hemisphere diaspora

Latinos are people of Latin American origin or descent, particularly in the United States.

The term encompasses diverse nationalities—Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, and others—united by cultural and linguistic ties to Spanish-speaking (and sometimes Portuguese-speaking) America.

Latino is the masculine form; Latina refers specifically to women: Latinos make up the largest minority group in the country.

The gender-neutral Latinx emerged in the 2010s but remains controversial, with many preferring the traditional forms or the newer Latine.
