Pollock

Drip painting pioneer

Pollock is a surname, most famously associated with Jackson Pollock, the American abstract expressionist painter known for his drip technique—laying canvases on the floor and pouring or flicking paint onto them.

His name has become shorthand for a certain style of chaotic, splattered abstraction: The walls looked like a Pollock painting. (Lowercase pollock is a fish.)
