Roy Lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein was an American painter and sculptor who became a leading figure in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s.

He is best known for works that appropriated imagery from comic strips and advertisements, rendered in the style of commercial printing with bold outlines, primary colors, and Ben-Day dots—the small, evenly spaced circles used in cheap printing to create shading and secondary colors.

His paintings often depicted melodramatic scenes or mundane objects with ironic detachment, questioning distinctions between fine art and mass-produced imagery.
