India pale ale

Bitter craft brew

India pale ale is a style of beer characterized by strong hop bitterness and higher alcohol content than standard ales.

Originally brewed in England for export to colonial India, the extra hops served as a preservative for the long voyage.

Modern craft brewing has spawned countless variations: a hazy IPA, a double IPA, a session IPA.

Usually abbreviated IPA.
