anamnesis

Patient's health background

Anamnesis is the recollection of things past.

In medicine, it refers to a patient's account of their medical history—the story they tell the doctor before diagnosis.

In philosophy and theology, anamnesis carries deeper weight: Plato used it for the soul's recovery of knowledge from previous existence, and Christian liturgy uses it for the ritual remembrance of Christ's sacrifice during communion.

The Eucharist is an anamnesis of the Last Supper.
