gluttony

Sinful excessive eating

Gluttony is excessive eating or drinking—indulgence beyond what the body needs or can reasonably enjoy.

One of the seven deadly sins in Christian tradition, it represents lack of self-control around physical appetites.

The word extends to overconsumption generally: His gluttony for power knew no bounds.

A glutton is someone who eats to excess, or figuratively, someone insatiable: a glutton for punishment.
