Blessed Sacrament

Eucharistic body, blood

The Blessed Sacrament is a Catholic term for the consecrated bread and wine of the Eucharist, believed to be the body and blood of Christ.

It refers particularly to the consecrated host when reserved in a tabernacle for adoration or brought to the sick: The priest carried the Blessed Sacrament to the hospital.

The term reflects the doctrine of transubstantiation—that the bread and wine become Christ's actual presence.
