Ways of life

Cultures is the plural of culture, which has two main branches.

One refers to the arts, intellectual achievement, and refined taste: The city is known for its cultures of music and theater.

The other describes the shared beliefs, customs, and practices of a group: workplace cultures, the cultures of Southeast Asia.

In science, cultures are microorganisms grown in controlled conditions for study: The lab tested bacterial cultures for antibiotic resistance.
