self-actualization
Becoming fully yourself
Self-actualization is the realization of one's full potential—becoming what you're capable of becoming.
The term comes from psychology, particularly Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, where it sits at the top: once basic needs like food, safety, and belonging are met, people pursue personal growth and fulfillment.
She quit law to become a potter, calling it her path to self-actualization.
The concept can sound lofty or be used mockingly for navel-gazing pursuits.
