Ivan Pavlov

Ivan Pavlov was a Russian physiologist best known for discovering classical conditioning—the process by which a neutral stimulus comes to trigger an automatic response through repeated association.

His experiments with dogs, which learned to salivate at the sound of a bell paired with food, became foundational to behavioral psychology.

Pavlovian describes any conditioned or automatic response: a Pavlovian reaction to hearing the ice cream truck.
