Portland

Pacific Northwest metropolis

Portland most commonly names two American cities: one in Oregon, the largest city in the Pacific Northwest, and one in Maine, that state's largest city.

Both sit on rivers near the coast.

Portland also refers to a type of cement—the powdery calcium silicate that, when mixed with water and aggregate, becomes concrete.

The cement was named for its resemblance to limestone from England's Isle of Portland.
