Death Zone
Ominous creative title
Death Zone refers to altitudes above roughly 8,000 meters (26,000 feet), where oxygen levels are too low to sustain human life for extended periods.
At this height, the body deteriorates faster than it can acclimatize—climbers risk pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, and death even with supplemental oxygen.
The term is most associated with the world's highest peaks: They entered the death zone on Everest's final push to the summit.
Figuratively, any environment of extreme danger or diminishing survival odds.
