Catskill Mountains
New York highlands
The Catskill Mountains are a range in southeastern New York State, part of the Appalachian system, rising to about 4,200 feet at their highest point.
The region is known for its forested peaks, scenic valleys, and numerous streams that feed New York City's water supply.
Historically, the Catskills gained cultural significance through the Hudson River School painters and Washington Irving's tales, particularly "Rip Van Winkle." We rented a cabin in the Catskills for the weekend.
The area remains a popular destination for hiking, skiing, and escape from the city.
