mid-Atlantic

Between two continents

Mid-Atlantic describes the region along the eastern United States between New England and the South—typically New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, sometimes including New York and Virginia: mid-Atlantic states, the mid-Atlantic accent.

It also refers to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean: a mid-Atlantic refueling stop.

A mid-Atlantic accent blends British and American features, once cultivated by actors and the upper class.
