Bcl-2
Blocks cell death
Bcl-2 is a protein that prevents programmed cell death, discovered through research on B-cell lymphoma (hence the name).
It belongs to a family of proteins that regulate whether cells live or die—some members promote survival, others trigger death.
Bcl-2's overexpression allows cancer cells to evade normal self-destruction: The tumor showed elevated Bcl-2 levels.
