yarns
Knitter's twisted threads
Yarns are long continuous strands of fibers twisted together, used for knitting, weaving, or sewing.
The word extends naturally to long, winding tales—especially informal stories of adventure or exaggeration that someone spins out for entertainment: He spun yarns about his days at sea.
As a verb, to yarn means to tell such stories, often in a leisurely, rambling way.
We sat on the porch yarning until midnight.
