yarn spinning
Twisting fiber strands
Yarn spinning is the process of twisting fibers together to create yarn or thread.
Raw materials like wool, cotton, or flax are drawn out and twisted, either by hand with a spindle or by machine, to form continuous strands strong enough for weaving or knitting.
The term also applies figuratively to storytelling—spinning a yarn means crafting an elaborate, often fanciful tale: He spent the evening spinning yarns about his travels.
