pluton
Subsurface igneous mass
A pluton is a body of igneous rock formed when magma cools and solidifies beneath the Earth's surface.
The term is used in geology to describe intrusive formations of various sizes and shapes, from small stocks to massive batholiths: The Sierra Nevada batholith is composed of numerous plutons.
Named after Pluto, the Roman god of the underworld.
