slip mat
Record player accessory
A slip mat is a thin mat, typically made of felt, placed on a turntable platter to allow a vinyl record to rotate freely beneath the DJ's hand.
Unlike rubber mats that grip the record, slip mats let DJs hold or slow records for scratching, beatmatching, and cueing while the platter continues spinning underneath: He swapped out the stock mat for a felt slip mat.
